Renewable Energy Systems

Thinking of using a renewable “green” energy technology to generate your own electricity and reduce your monthly costs? Net Metering might be the ideal solution for you.

Our Net Metering program is available to any Oshawa Power customer who generates electricity primarily for their own use from a renewable energy source (wind, water, solar radiation or agricultural biomass).

Net metering allows you to send electricity generated from Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) to Oshawa Power’s distribution system for a credit towards your electricity costs. In essence, it’s a “trade” of electricity you supply against electricity you consume. Excess generation credits can be carried forward for a consecutive 12 month period to offset future electricity costs. Net-metered customers can now pair energy storage with renewable energy systems.

How does it work?

Once you’re connected to the Oshawa Power distribution system, we will read your meter and then subtract the value of electricity you supply to the grid from the value of what you take from the grid. You will see the “net” difference between these two amounts on your bill. If you supply more power than what you take from the grid over the billing cycle, you’ll receive a credit toward future energy bills. The credit can be carried forward for up to 12 months. Distributed Energy Resources

These programs allows homeowners, communities, business owners and private developers to generate renewable energy and participate in current industry programs. You can apply to the program if you use one or more forms of renewable energy, including wind, waterpower, biomass and biogas, solar photovoltaic (PV) power and landfill gas.
